Averroes: A Cultural Bridge Between East and West

Averroes: A Cultural Bridge Between East and West

After exploring the life of Avicenna in February, our journey into the great Arabic scientific and philosophical tradition continues in June with another extraordinary figure. Averroes introduces young readers to the incredible life of Ibn Rushd (born in Cordoba in 1126 and passed away in Marrakesh in 1198).

A philosopher, jurist, physician, mathematician, and astronomer, Averroes is considered, alongside Avicenna, the most influential Muslim intellectual figure of the Middle Ages. His revolutionary theories, such as the independence of the truths of reason from those of faith, deeply influenced Western philosophy and culture, making him a true bridge between East and West.

An Author of Excellence and a Splendid Editorial Discovery

Bringing this story to life is Fatima Sharafeddine, an award-winning Lebanese writer and editor who lives between Beirut and Brussels. With over 120 published books translated into numerous languages, the author boasts major international recognition, including the 2016 Bologna Ragazzi Award and three nominations for the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

In Italy, the beauty of this book has found its voice thanks to the Gallucci publishing house, an organization that we deeply admire for its commitment to creating cultural bridges through childrens literature.

In this regard, we have a small note to share: during the latest edition of the Turin International Book Fair, we had the great pleasure of visiting their booth in person. Being able to experience firsthand the care, passion, and quality that Gallucci puts into these bilingual books has made our mission to feature their texts on our website and at our events even more special.

If you are looking for a read capable of intertwining history, philosophy, and a love for languages, let yourself be captivated by the story of Averroes!
