Ibn Battuta (ابْن بَطُّوطَة)

Born in Tangier in 1304, at the age of 21 Ibn Battuta decided to embark on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He then reached Jerusalem, visited Persia, Iraq, Yemen, and numerous countries in Asia and Africa, before returning to his homeland, Morocco, at the age of fifty. His fame is linked to his work Travels, an account of his extraordinary adventures and numerous encounters over the course of over thirty years traveling around the world.

A writer, translator, and editor of children's books, lives between Beirut and Brussels. She has published over 120 books, many of which have been translated into various languages, from English to Hindi. Her numerous awards include the 2016 Bologna Ragazzi Award (New Horizons) and a three-time nomination for the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
