Averroè (ابْنُ رُشْد)

Averroes, a Western adaptation of the Arabic name Ibn Rushd (Cordoba 1126 – Marrakesh 1198), distinguished himself as a philosopher, jurist, physician, mathematician, judge, and astronomer, and is considered, along with Avicenna, the most influential Muslim intellectual figure of the Middle Ages. His theses influenced Western thought, such as the denial of the immortality of the individual soul and the independence of the truths of reason from those of faith.
