Costanza is not old yet, but she soon will be. Convinced that the "third act" of life should be lived to the fullest, she writes about it with a feisty, combative spirit in her column. When she inherits an austere former convent from her father, she decides to gather the companions of her youth—those with whom she once shared her life and political activism—to recreate a commune where they can share their burdens and debate the future.
Energetic and commanding, Costanza is the magnet drawing everyone in: her old friends; her partner, Dom, whom she pushed away but who still watches over her affectionately; and her son, Matteo, who nurses his own private grief from a distance. But as everyone converges upon her, Costanza begins to feel suffocated by the sheer scale of her own plan. Is she truly sure this is what she wants? And what will happen next?
