Piranesi

Piranesi lives in the House, a labyrinthine structure of endless halls and thousands of statues, where the tides flood the lower levels. He assists the Other in a quest for Great Knowledge, until he begins to discover evidence of a world beyond the walls and a truth he had forgotten.

Susanna Clarke is an English author best known for her debut novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. After a long hiatus due to illness, she returned with Piranesi, which won the Womens Prize for Fiction for its haunting atmosphere and brilliant originality.
