This is the only Italian edition of the stinging editorials that Kassir wrote regularly for the front page of An-Nahar newpaper. It is a detailed reflection on the complex relations between Syria and Lebanon, outlining a democratic approach to the issues facing the contemporary Arab world.

In the Words of Gabriele Romagnoli:

Writing in La Repubblica the day after the author's assassination, Gabriele Romagnoli noted: "Kassir, unlike many others, does not indulge in conspiracy theories or victimhood. He is not in business with anyone. He is not aiming for a political career. He writes what he thinks.

A communist in his youth, he has always fought for Lebanon's independence from Syria. Better than anyone else, he understands and needles the Damascus regime. His attacks are never shots in the dark, but the targeted strikes of an informed sniper. He maintains excellent relations with Syrian dissidents and puts them to use."

Author: Samir Kassir (سَمِير قَصِير)

He was a Lebanese journalist, historian, and political scientist, who was brutally assassinated on June 2, 2005, in Beirut. In March 2005, he led the demonstrations that—in response to the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri—brought one million Lebanese people into the streets to demand Lebanon's independence from the Syrian protectorate.

Among the founders of the Democratic Left Movement, Kassir published significant studies on the history of Lebanon. In his honor, the European Commission established the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press, which is granted annually to an Arab journalist.
